The Choral

Running Time: 1h 53m

Rated: 12A (Music)

Friday 1st May 2026, 7:30pm

It is 1916 and the local Choral Society has lost most of its male members to the army. To replace them young local men not yet called up are recruited. A new chorus master must also be found and, despite the committee’s suspicion that he has something to hide, the best bet seems to be Dr Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes). He is a driven and uncompromising personality who has recently returned from a musical career in Germany.

When the conscription papers begin to arrive the community responds to the chaos of the war by making music together.

The screenplay is by Alan Bennett.
