This is a true story set in early 1970’s Brazil when the country was facing the tightening grip of military dictatorship. Under this brutal regime many people were “disappeared” including the husband of Eunice Paiva.

Up until his abduction the family had lived a happy middle-class life but for the next 25 years they did not know whether Ruben was alive or dead. The film is an exploration of grief and resilience in the face of political brutality and was an Academy Award winner in 2024 for best foreign film, directed by Walter Salles.
